As she parked her car and wandered towards the beach, Naveah couldn't help but smile. She and Jaxon saw each other at least twice a week now, had dinner together almost every day when they could. It felt like a fantasy to having such a wonderful relationship with the man she had always felt a connection to. Thinking back, she wondered what would have happened if they had never bumped into each other at the library... if they had never kissed that first night, if she had never saw him at the coffee house when she came back to town... it was interesting.
She walked along the beach, pacing in front of the "No diving" sign that they had agreed to meet at. Her swim suit cover up swished around her legs and her flip flops got stuck in the sand in the way they're supposed to when you're at the beach. Being in New Jersey felt a little strange - she was so used to New York! but it was good, and it felt right. The sand was warm and squishy and she couldn't wait for Jaxon to meet up with her.

Jaxon was beyond nervous as he pulled up to the beach's parking lot. They'd planned a picnic for tonight, something a bit different compared to their usual dinner in his apartment or her's. As he parked, Jaxon held the steering wheel tight between his fingers. He was happy, yes. Overjoyed, really. But he was nervous and the butterflies in his stomach felt like they were gnawing away at his innards. Regardless, he pulled the keys from the ignition, grabbed the basket and blanket from the passenger's seat, and exited the car. After taking off his snakers and leaving them at the edge of the lot (where everyone always left their shoes), he headed out towards the water.
The first step into the sand and Jaxon relaxed just a bit. He felt like he'd gotten something over with, and he hadn't even started the important part yet. But I guess actually getting to Naveah was important.
He walked pretty slowly, feeling each and every grain of sand beneath his toes. He stopped a couple times to bury his toes, but always kept going. His heart practically burst when he saw Naveah standing under the "No Diving" sign. She's so beautiful, he said to himself, cocking his head to the side as he approached her. "Hey cutie," he said gently, then kissed her on the nose before setting the basket on the beach. "Help me with this blanket?" he offered her a corner of the red and white striped blanket with a wink.

www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=66406960She smiled when Jaxon walked up. The kiss on her nose made her wrinkle her face cutely, her habit, of course. She liked it when he kissed her like that - gently, softly, a small peck here or there to make her grin. She picked up her end of the picnic blanket and helped him pull it out and lay it on the ground. She was quickly on her knees after, pulling a few items of food out of her picnic basket - she had packed strawberries, cheese and crackers, and a small bottle of champagne with plastic champagne flutes for fun. Watching him as he sat down, she couldn't help but admire his handsomeness. She was lucky to have a man like Jaxon. Intelligent, geeky, easy to get along with, with an amazing personality - and he was easy on the eyes, too. She never felt unhappy near Jaxon. He called her cutie or baby and it warmed her heart, every time she head him use pet names like that. "How was your day, Jax?" She asked pleasently. This was the right time to be on the beach. The sun was setting, casting an orange glow across the water. The sand was just warm enough to be comfortable and not burn, and the food was staying at a good temperature, too. She felt like it was a perfect night.

( www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=66409223 look how color coordinated everything is!) Jaxon smiled when she started to unpack everything and took a seat that wasn't quite next to her, but not far enough to be across from her. He was sort of on an angle as he reached into the basket himself and grabbed a few of the strawberries. "It was great," he said with a broad smile, giddy with excitement as the rock in his pocket felt heavier than anything in the world. He loved looking at her. She was just beautiful! Those eyes, those lips, that nose.. everything about her was everything Jaxon wanted for the rest of his life. And he planned to make that dream reality tonight. But not yet. It wasn't time just yet. "I know the waters probably kinda cold.. but that's not gonna stop me from seeing you in your sexy bathing suit tonight, is it?" he asked with a silly laugh before taking a bite of the berry in his hand.

Naveah grinned when he took a strawberry - she was glad he was tucking in already. It wasn't exactly strawberry season. When he mentioned the bathing suit that he was just so excited to see, she jumped to her feet. Her long sari-style cover up was very good at doing what it was supposed to (covering up). There was barely an inch of skin revealed besides her shoulders. Smiling, she reached up and undid the tie of her cover up, dropping it to the ground. "Yeah, you get to see my bikini now," she laughed and struck a few obnoxious poses for fun. Reaching out, she took his hands and pulled him up. Lacing their fingers together, she danced a little with him, being silly. "Do you want to swim, or walk around the beach or just eat? Or do all three in succession?"

Jaxon giggled as they danced and kissed her nose again when they stopped. Then, he made a very thoughtful look before saying, "I think we should eat while swimming and walking on the beach all at once. Ready go." He laughed again, pulling her close. Dropping one hand from her's, he placed it on the small of her back and went into a sort of slow dance. "Do you know how much I love you?" he asked, the slightest hint of a very comfortable smile on his face as he rocked back and forth with her. "Do you know just how much you mean to me?" He wasn't really expecting an answer, because he hoped what he was about to do could prove any doubts to her. Gently, Jaxon dropped Naveah's other hand and backed up two or three steps. He looked at her for a moment, taking in the fact that she was thoroughly confused. "Naveah," he said, a bit hoarse, as he reached into his pocket. "Naveah Elaine Withers," that's when he dropped to one knee, pulling the ring from his shorts. "Will you marry me?" His right hand was extended before him, palm facing up with the ring in the very center. He couldn't have been smiling any broader as he stared up at her with those big, blue puppy dog eyes. www.jared.com/en/jaredstore/engagement---wedding/14k-white-gold-1-4-carat-diamond-solitaire-161221003--1/100222/100222.100223.100226

She giggled when he joked about eating, walking, and swimming at the same time. When he said "Ready go" she was about to run off to see if he'd chase her, but the way he held on to her felt good. His hand on her back led into the slow dancing she loved. They rocked a little on their feet, not moving too far from their spot, just shifting around in the sand. When he asked if she knew how much he loved her, she stopped a little, feet moving a little more slowly. A smile tilted up the corners of her lips as she turned her head to the side questioningly. She was about to tell him just the same - did he know how much she loved him? There was nothing in the world that could compare to him. There was nothing more important to her than her boyfriend. He meant everything to her - she just wouldn't be as complete without him.
When he stepped back, and felt a little uncomfortable. Her heart picked up its pace and she wondered if this was somehow his way of letting her down easy - to tell her that he loved her but it wouldn't work. When he said her full name, though, and his hand inched towards his pocket, she gasped. He got down on one knee and she felt as though she was wearing the tightest corset in the world, made of love and surprise. She was short of breath and her heart was pumping quickly in her chest. Will you marry me?
Her hands moved to her mouth to cover her wide open smile. Squeaking out her response, she could barely manage to speak. "Yes, oh yes, of course!" She grinned and moved her hands, reaching out her left hand. "P-put the ring on for me?" she whispered, slightly in shock. She wanted him to slip it on her finger, she wanted to feel his hands wrapped around hers. She wanted to hold him tightly and never let go - but first things first: the ring.

Its redundant to keep mentioning the smile that crossed Jaxon's face. Except now, it felt broader than ever. It took a moment for him to realize that Naveah was no longer his girlfriend, but his fiancé. Even so, he did his best to slip the ring onto her finger without fainting.
Once the ring was in place, Jaxon took her hand with both of his and leaned forward to kiss her fingers. He then looked up at her. "I love you so much," he said, fighting back tears of pure joy. He then stood and took her into his arms. They hugged for a moment, but he soon pulled his head back. "I'm sorry its not the biggest ring," he said, still smiling lightly. "But I'd been saving as much as I could from all my paychecks for the last couple months and well.. I guess you could say that its worth over a thousand cups of coffee," he joked. They laughed for a minute and then Jaxon leaned in to kiss Naveah's lips.
"I love you," he said again, quieter this time.

As soon as the ring was on her finger, she wanted to look at it. But he pulled her in for a hug and a kiss and that became her sole priority. His arms wrapped around her and his ring on her finger felt right. Their kisses felt pure, and whole. She always thought she would be a virgin when she would get married, but she realized it didn't even matter now. The man she gave her whole self to was the man should would marry anyway. He was her first kiss, first boyfriend, first love, first sexual experience - he was her first everything. "Jax," she murmured, leaning her cheek against his. "You're my first everything. You'll be my first and only husband, I promise." She squeezed his hand in hers tightly, feeling the ring on her finger as they interlocked their grips. "I love you too much to let you go, you know that, right? Please..." she looked down, staring at their hands. "Never doubt my love for you." She smiled, then looked into his eyes, leaning in for another kiss.
When he mentioned saving up for the ring and hoping she'd like it, she had to smile. The thousand coffee cups comment made her pause though, and in seconds she was tearing up. Crystal droplets of water ran down her cheeks and all she could do was sniffle and manage to keep smiling. Reaching up with her free hand, she could barely do anything to wipe them away. "I wouldn't trade this ring for anything in the world," she whispered, then laughed at herself. "Look at me crying, I'm such a sap," she hiccuped a little laugh, and bent her neck forward, leaning against his chest. "I love you, I love you, I love you." she murmured.

Jaxon held onto her and chuckled like a hyper child. "Naveah," he said through a giggle. "We're.. we're engaged." He gave her one last squeeze before backing up from her so he could just look at her. "What an odd pair we are," he said in a rather intelligent tone of voice. "You, the religious archaeologist; and me, the psychotic basket case. Its funny." He tilted his to the side a bit and stuck his hand up under his beanie. He took it off next and shook out his hair.
Engaged, he thought, smiling and laughing to himself. I, Jaxon McKay Porter, am engaged!

Engaged... engaged! She was so excited, there were no words to describe it. Giddiness wouldn't even cover half of it. She smiled when he took off the beanie - she thought he looked cute, with or without - and then took hold of his hand again. "We're getting married! Someday... soon, I hope!" she grinned and used his hand as a turning point as she spun out, then spun back in so that she was back in his arms. "I just... I can't wait!" she giggled, and leaned up on her toes to give him a kiss. Letting go of his hand, she danced away a few steps, then threw back her head and sang out, "I'm getting married to Jaxon Porter!" A few glances were passed from the people who were mingling on the boardwalk nearby, and she noticed an older couple clapping for them. She just smiled, lips stretching wide.
Sitting back down on the blanket, she felt too full of energy. but she wanted to look at the ring more. She held her hand up in the sunlight, watched the orange glow filter through the shining heart shaped diamond. She absolutely loved it. Admiring the way it fit on her finger perfectly, she wondered how he knew her ring size, and looked up at him with joy in her eyes. "Jax, I can't calm down, I'm just so excited!" She informed him, laughing. "Are you? My heart's still pounding and I could run around this beach a million times and I still wouldn't be calm. We're getting married!"
Pulling the bottle of champagne and plastic flutes out of the basket, she glanced up at him. "I think this calls for celebration." She popped the bottle open and poured herself some, then some for him - not too much, since they were driving home later. Setting back, she looked off into the sunset. She was so sure that her grin was set on her face forever, she could barely move her face in any other way. "Mr. and Mrs. Jaxon and Naveah Porter..." it had a certain ring to it. "We may be the oddest pair, but that makes us perfect, you know." She mused.
Deep in thought, she didn't look up at him as she continued to talk (though she was addressing only him). "I wonder what married life will be like? I suppose we'll have to live together, find a house, maybe," she liked the thought of that. "We'll share the same bed... never have to make a phone call just to say goodnight... we can have dinner together whenever we want..." suddenly, the thought dawned on her. Looking up, she raised an eyebrow. "Jax, do you want kids?" she asked, interested in his answer.

Jaxon watched her jump around with excitement. He couldn't have been happier, seeing as she'd only just agreed to marry him. "Naveah Porter has a nice ring to it," he said with a quirky smile just before she asked if he was as happy as she was. "Oh fuck yea. My girlfriend, the most beautiful girl in the world, just agreed to marry me! I think I might go throw up," he said with a chuckle and then took a seat on the blanket, taking the glass of champagne she'd pored for him. He chinked it against the edge of her's before taking a sip and mimicking her posture, both now looking out at the sun.
He had been nodding along with her, agreeing to what she'd been saying. Then she asked about kids. He took that as a bit of a shocker.. never once had Jaxon ever really thought of reproduction. Having a miniature him running around sounded like a horrible idea. But maybe.. maybe it meant a second chance at living. But he didn't want to live through his child did he? That's where all those psychotic pageant mothers and insane baseball dads come from.. he shuddered lightly. "Y'know.. I think I do some day," he said thoughtfully, eyes squinted lightly as he stared out at the water. As much as he feared ruining their lives, he really did see himself in the future with children. And children that were no one else's but Naveah's.
"What about you?" he asked, turning his head to look at her. She looked so beautiful in the warm, setting sun.

It was true, Naveah Porter did have a nice ring to it. She liked it too much already, and they were barely engaged! Smiling to herself, she let herself relax a little in the setting sun. There was a warmth in the air that left her skin feeling as though it could glow. She missed going to the beach every day like she had in Mexico and Florida (and all of the other places she lived on the coasts). In New York. parks had to be planned and planted instead of let grow naturally. The stars were amazing if you could see them over the tops of the buildings - but nothing could match a sunset on a New Jersey beach.
Her mind switched to the topic of children, and she sat there for a moment thinking. A child... something half her's, something she would help make. She tried to imagine herself with a steadily growing, pregnant stomach, but she just couldn't picture it as she stared down at her mostly-flat stomach. What would their child look like? If she thought hard, she could almost make out the face of a younger version of herself, only with Jaxon's eyes and hair color. It made her lips curl up into a grin and she looked at Jax with a soft expression.
"I think I'd want a baby, someday..." She paused, then looked down at her lap again. "Do you think I'd make a good mom?" She whispered, eyes tearing a little. She'd always wanted a baby, her own daughter or son, someone to love with all her heart. Someone to raise and help through life. But... could she actually do that? Would her baby turn out to be a wonderful adult?

"Oh yea definitely," he said, still staring at her happily. But he turned his head back to the ocean before saying, "I think its me we have to worry about. I dunno how I'd be as a dad." His voice cracked over the word 'dad'. Wouldn't he be terrible? From everything else in his life, he wasn't sure if he was really cut out to be a father. He never really had his own, or at least one that loved him. So how was he to know how to show his own love to his own son? He wasn't sure.. but if Naveah was at his side, he was willing to give it a shot.
"But I mean, let's get through the wedding first," he said with a smile as he looked back at Naveah. Jax wasn't about to go into one of episodes.. so he was trying to get his mind off the topic of his childhood. "Its gonna be so fun," he added, sounding a lot like a child as the excitement streamed through his voice.

Naveah thought about them as a family. First it would be just two of them for a while, in a house of their own. They could decorate it and throw parties for their friends, they could spend holidays at their own homes instead of going elsewhere. It would be them in their own world. And if they brought a baby into their little world... if they started their own family... It would be the most wonderful addition to their lives. She could picture them, walking a son or daughter to the bus, playing on the playground, reading books to help them sleep. She had no doubts that Jaxon would be a good father, if only a little estranged. She was worried about herself being a mother, though... would she be able to do it? She didn't want to bring it up.
"Yes, I'm so excited for a wedding," she murmured, looking at him. She would get lost in those eyes if she looked for too long. Someday, she realized, she would be able to look into her eyes whenever she wanted. They would wake up in the same bed, eat at the same table, perhaps even make love in the bed that they shared (that, of course, was inevitable, considering they were considering a baby).
"What do you want, a big wedding or a small one?" She asked. A big wedding meant all of her family... friends from Foxhurst, her brother, maybe her adoptive parents and father from Mexico. It would work out wonderfully. A small wedding would be okay too, though. It could be as tiny as just them (well, with a preacher too, of course). She realized she didn't really care how many people there were, where it was, what she was wearing. She just wanted her engagement ring to be a wedding ring. She wanted to be Mrs. Naveah Porter.
