Drake had spent the entire day at the race track, from five in the morning until four thirty in the afternoon. From the beginning of the day, he was stuck either in his car or in his office. His racing manager had advised him to take a day of practice before the New York Area Semi-Finals was to occur, to make sure that the pit crew knew exactly when he was going to be taking breaks, and to work out any problems in the run. For instance, they had to let a pit crew member go today, just because he was slowing down the team. If they hadn't have had the practice day, he might of cost Drake the race, which would mean loosing over five thousand dollars.
When it got to be about four twenty in the afternoon, the pit crew was covered in oil, sweat and grease, and Drake was about dying from heat exhaustion. Being stuck in a metal contraption all day, wearing a leather uniform and helmet, can cause some major problems. Serena was always reminding him to keep hydrated, on and off the track, because when he had to do paper work in his office, there was no air conditioning either. It was a very tense day at the track and everyone knew that if someone didn't call for a twenty minute stop soon, all hell would break loose.
Pulling his car to a stop by the entrance to the stands that surround the track, he left it in the middle of the road - it wasn't like there were any other racers practicing. When it came to things as big as Semi-Finals, which could take Drake all the way to the season of NASCAR, Drake's manager always kept the track open for him and him only. He wouldn't be disturbed - unless someone visited.
He got out of the car, pulling himself through the window instead of opening the door, and yanked off his helmet. Sliding his glasses on his face, he was flipping through a stack of papers handed to him by a crew member when he noticed someone move in the stands. About five rows up, sitting on the edge of her seat was Rosie, the girl he hadn't seen in months, ever since their coffee encounter. He waved, a smile breaking out on his face, and beckoned her to join him. Before she could get to the fence that separated the stands from the track, he had already hopped over the guard rail and was leaning against it, arms held open for a hug.

www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=57367190Rosie would be the first to admit that she didn't know anything about cars. Types of cars, how cars worked, what competitions cars even raced in... It was a whole other language she didn't understand. So being at the race track was an exciting experience for her. Not only because, well, Drake was there, but it was cool. Seeing the car speed around the track, she couldn't believe how fast Drake was going. It was exhilarating. When Drake finally got out of the car, Rosie found herself too nervous to say anything. Anxiously she edged forward on her seat, wondering whether to just get up and go. Then Drake looked up and saw her. Rosie's heart jumped as he beamed up and started waving, ushering her to come down. Returning his smile Rosie jumped up from her seat, grabbing her canvas bag and slipping it over her shoulder. A little clumsily Rosie made her way down to him, running in to his arms with some force. 'Hello!', she gasped, trying to catch her breath from her quick descent down the stairs. After a minute Rosie tore herself away from the hug, feeling that it had lasted a tad too long. 'You were amazing out there', she gestured over at the track, still beaming.

When Rosie came down to hug him, he didn't expect something so... physical. Sure, he'd hugged Rosie tons of times since they'd seen each other last, but this was the first time that it was longer than three seconds, and more connected than just an arm around her shoulder. He put his hands down below her waist, holding her against him, relishing in the feel of her soft frame against his. Something he hadn't felt like this in... years, really, ever since they stopped talking in high school and she hugged him for the last time at Foxhurst.
When she let go, he held her shoulders at arms length, smiling at her. "You look great!" He complimented, looking her up and down. She didn't normally wear dresses or cute things like this, did she? He let go of her and leaned against the fence, grinning over his shoulder while glancing at his car. "She's a nice car." He laughed, looking back at Rosie. "If you think this is good, you should pop by tomorrow. I've got a race and I expect to win it!"

'Thanks', Rosie replied, looking down at her dress. All of a sudden feeling quite self-conscious. On a normal day she wouldn't be seen wearing a dress. Today though, well, she'd tried to make an effort. Even if she hadn't been sure she would see Drake, she wanted to look nice for him.
Rosie peered around Drake to look at the car. What kind of car it was, she didn't know, but it looked pretty cool. Unlike the cars you usually saw driving around, she she nodded her head in agreement. 'You have a race tomorrow? That's cool, I might come and see', Rosie grinned up at him, for the moment forgetting who else might be at that race. Drake's wife, his little girl. 'Have you finished now, or do you have to go back?', Rosie asked, sitting down on one of the front row plastic chairs.

Drake sat beside her with a smile, putting a hand down on the bench and just relaxing. "I hope you come, tomorrow." He said suddenly, realizing how abrupt it sounded. "I mean, I just like having fans - call me vain, but it's nice to know someone's out there rooting for me, you know?" He grinned and wrinkled his nose, the exact same way Indiana would have done. "Sounds kind of narcissistic right? Ooh I want everyone to love me!" He joked, obviously being sarcastic. "But uh, anyway... I think I'm done for the night. Race track closes around five and I've got some papers to do but I do that in the comfort of my home." He shrugged, then looked at her quizzically. "Why?"

Rosie smiled, 'Well I'll try to be here, I'm off work for two whole weeks, so, I have nothing else to do, I'll be your number one fan', she laughed, imagining herself cheering Drake on. Pressed up against the barriers screaming his name. Well, if Serena was going to be there, she'd probably have to hold back on that...
Rosie shrugged, 'I don't know, I was just wondering', she replied quickly. 'Oh!', she exclaimed, remembering something she had in her bag. In a sort of, flustered manner, she began digging through her canvas bag, looking for something. 'Here, I brought these for you, for old times sake', she laughed a little nervously as she produced a tub of candy from her bag. It was a clear tub, and it looked like the sort you'd keep medication in. On the front, above a pink + sign, it read 'Happy Pills'. 'It's kinda stupid, but, yeah', Rosie muttered, she looked down and bit her lip, holding out the candies to him.
( There's a picture of the candy on Rosie's Polyvore set )

Drake smiled warily when she said she had something for him - normally, that meant a hit across the face, or a kiss on the lips. He was concerned with both options; he liked Rosie, but a kiss would be taking it a little too far, and a little too quickly. However, a hit across the face..? Well, maybe he deserved that one. When she produced the small bottle with "happy pills" written on it, he grinned, his worries gone. He remembered all those times they hung out together, stoned and dangerous, just being goofy or reckless or lazy. Those were great times - even though they weren't very productive. Accepting the gift, he opened the bottle and held it out to her, picking a blue pill out, surprised to find it rather soft. He squished it between his thumb and forefinger, laughing. "Jelly beans?" He popped it into his mouth and stuck out his tongue when it was sufficiently covered in blue. "The best happy pills there are!"

'I'm not sure I agree', Rosie replied, a little quietly, but she was still smiling as she took a red sweet from the tub. After a moment of sucking on the sweet she stuck out her tongue. 'Is it red?', she giggled, feeling a bit childish.

Drake laughed and munched on another candy as she sucked on hers. When she stuck out her tongue and asked if it was red, he had to chuckle to hide what he was thinking. He was sort of wondering if her tongue had changed - a weird idea, he knew - because he hadn't kissed her in a while. Unintentionally, he leaned a little farther towards her, then jerked back and hid the movement with a cough. "Your tongue is always red, silly." He said, smiling awkwardly.

'Redder then', Rosie laughed, putting her tongue back in her mouth. When Drake had moved in Rosie had copied his movement, and now her cheeks were flushed. Well, now would be a good a time as any to ask the question she'd wanted to ask since hugging him at the fence.
'So... Do you want to go get a drink, or something, or is that weird?', Rosie twirled a strand if her hair around her finger, something which would embarrass her if she could see herself.

Drake smiled when she mentioned a drink - that sounded exceptional. Between late nights with James and early mornings at work, he never had any time to relieve some stress. "Sure, a drink!" He smiled, sliding out of his leather jacket and putting it on the bench next to him, adjusting his black shirt so that it didn't seem so stuck to him. He then stood up and offered her a hand. "I feel like getting tipsy; let's make a good night out of it." He didn't know what exactly he had meant by that. He knew Serena wouldn't approve, but he wanted to do something without having Serena constantly cheery and peppy at his side. Serena was his amazing wife, but Rosie was also a friend he could talk to - without getting a careful answer or a polite response. He wanted down to earth today, not kind, and he wanted a drink that he couldn't have in front of his wife.

For some reason Rosie was surprised when Drake agreed. Mentally she'd been preparing herself to be shot down. Happily she hopped up from her seat, taking his hand in hers. Even though it had been more than five years since they'd last held hands, it felt right. Maybe not even in a romantic way, even if it was just a friendly way, it felt perfect. Rosie tried to surpress the memory of Drake saying he loved her back in High School.
'Okay, awesome', Rosie beamed, letting Drake lead her through the seats and down the steps. Rosie began to wonder if he still had the motor bike they'd promised to run away on...

Walking Rosie out to the parking lot, he didn't let go of her hand. It wasn't like they needed to be connected, fingers intertwined, but he wanted to hold some part of her. It was weird, seeing her after so long. Not running away with her like they had planned... it seemed like a fantasy back then, and he wondered if he would have actually done it. Maybe not, but it still felt odd hanging out with Rosie again, after so much time. As if he knew, in some parallel world, they would have worked out, and holding hands wouldn't have been awkward, then. Just thinking over it made him nervous, so he let go of her hand and smiled. "My bike's over there. You're not afraid of riding, right?" he joked, knowing she had been on the back of his motorcycle many times before.

Rosie couldn't hide her excitement when she saw Drake's bike parked up. Instantly she rushed over, half dragging Drake, seeing as they were still holding hands. 'I was literally just going to ask you about this thing!', she laughed, feeling giddy and excited, 'Of course I'm not afraid!', she replied, letting go of his hand and climbing on the back of the bike. 'I'm not afraid of anything', she added, giving him a cheeky wink before bursting in to a fit of giggles. Yes, giggles. Rosie was over-excited.
