"Which cookie do you want, baby?" A young man with a stupid haircut and a black sport jacket over a blue button up and jeans asked the beautiful red headed child on his hip. The girl pointed to a chocolate chip cookie in the display window. "Chocolate!" She cried and giggled at her father. It'd been so long since Kegan had been back in the city. But he was so tired of his sad home in LA without his wife. It'd been over a year since her passing, and it was time he move on. Or...back. He wasn't sure what he was looking for, but he was here. He'd been directing the Broadway production of Spring Awakening for the past six months, and he was growing very accustomed to theater. He'd casted his best friend as the lead roll, and some Broadway fansites called that unfair, but he called it having connections. Either way, the show was popular, much like anything Kegan put his hands on lately.
He ordered a chai tea latte along with his daughter's cookie, and then sat down at a round table, keeping his babygirl on his lap. He brushed her hair out of her face and smiled at her. "Is it good, Bethy?" He asked her. She nodded quickly and took another bite. The cookie was bigger than her little hands could hold. "Yummy!" She cooed and giggled again. He laughed a little, sipped his drink, and started scrolling through Twitter, relaxing a little before he headed off to rehearsals again.

Thalia ran a hand through her hair, which was still long and blonde. Her hair was down and curled today like she normally would wear it. She didn't really straighten it anymore like she used to. She was only 5'3 now, and had only grown two inches since she got out of high school and through college. She was wearing a black tank top and a pair of jean shorts, along with black Nike running shoes on her feet. By her side... Well, not anymore at this point was her ten year old daughter Emily. She looked like a younger version of her. She was 4'10 and had short blonde hair to her shoulders. But at this point it was up in a high pony tail. She wearing a red leotard with a black and gold star on the side of it, with a pair of black soffe shorts over top. On her small feet were a pair of black flip flops. Look around to where Emily wondered off to, she turned back around and ordered a white chocolate mocha for herself, before turning to look for her daughter.
Emily of course went over to someone who looked familiar. The young man with the stupid hair cut who was on his phone, and had a little girl eating a cookie next to him. She walked over to him and tapped on his shoulder. "Hi! I don't know if you remember me, or even if you're the right person. But, if I recall aren't you Kegan? The boy that dated my mother in high school?"she asked looking at him with big blue eyes that looked like a mini version of Thalia. Thalia saw Emily talking to someone and told the cashier to hold on. She walked over to Emily and gave Kegan barely even a glance. "I'm sorry. She wonders off sometimes. Em, what do you want to snack on?"she asked looking down at her daughter. "I just want a water and a bag of sun chips"Emily said to her mom. Thalia walked back over to the register telling them that. Before waiting for stepping to the side waiting for their order. Emily stayed looked at the man waiting for him to talk.
(MAKE KEGAN RECOGNIZE THALIA! She's stupidly oblivious to the world around her. XD )

There's no way...
Kegan stared at the little girl, wide-eyed. There had only been one girl he dated in high school, and that was Thaliana Manson. But there was absolutely no way she had a daughter this big. Little Emily was...maybe five the last time he saw her. This child was...no. No definitely not the same girl. He was just about to tell her that, when her mother walked over and it was the same beautiful girl he left back in college. He felt sick. He had no idea Thalia moved back. And she looked...so mature. So gorgeous. So...different. He couldn't explain it, but she was not the same person he broke up with. This girl was -- she was a woman. He swallowed hard, and looked back at the girl. "Yeah, um...you're Emily, right?" He asked her with a smile.

Emily nodded, "Yes I am. And that's my mom, as you probably guess"she said pointing at the lady who was talking on the phone with someone at this point. "She's in a bitchy mood right now, I don't know why. She's been mad ever since my practice. I think it has something to do with my coach. Something to do with my membership at the training center"she shrugged acting like she didn't even say the "B word". She knew Kegan probably wouldn't tell on her. I mean, he wasn't some kind of nark. Or at least she didn't think he was. "Is this your daughter? She's totally adorable. If you want to go talk to mom or something I can watch her"she asked looking at the little girl with a smile.
Thalia took her coffee, Emily's water and bag of chips and set them down on the table. She had her cell phone to her ear as she took a sip of her coffee. "I know i'm late on paying her membership at the gym, i'll have it paid by Friday"she told the coach before hanging up on him. "Em, come on. Come eat your snack and then we have to go" she said to Emily before looking at who she was with. Holy shit. The one person she didn't expect to see here, she saw. Kegan Conley. He still looked as cute - as handsome as ever. He still looked like that same boy she dated in high school, except a slightly more mature look. Not by much, I mean... He has that chubby face and his lip piercing still. She looked away from Kegan and back at her phone which she was now pulling up Twitter.
(Kegan. Get balls. Go talk to her! )

Kegan's eyes grew huge when Emily used the word bitchy. It actually made him feel uncomfortable, seeing such a grown up word come out of that little mouth. He looked over at Thalia sitting down, and then back down at his daughter. "Yeah, um...I guess I should go say hi..." He jumped off of the table, and handed his baby to Emily. "Her name is Beth, by the way." He said with a smile. He didn't add a be careful because he was pretty sure Thalia's daughter wouldn't like... kill her in five minutes. Well, he hoped she wouldn't.
He took a deep breath and walked over to the table she was sitting at. "Hey, Thal." He said with more confidence than he felt. If he'd learned anything over these years, it was how to fake a poker face. Though he was sure she could still see right through him.

Thalia glanced up at Kegan, before placing her phone down on table. She turned to face him. "Hey, Key. I'm sorry for Emily coming up to you, she kind of goes where ever she pleases"she said with a small smile. Of course it was a fake one though. She stood up hugging him in a friendly manner just to be nice. "Is that your little girl? She's really cute... How are you? I heard about your wife... How are you holding up?"she asked before sitting back down. Even hugging him just brought back all the memories. And how he ripped her heart into pieces after leaving her for a girl he only knew for six months. Ass hole. She was being her normal friendly self. Only because she could never be mean to Kegan, probably even if she wanted to. Truth be told. She still loved this man. No matter how much pain he caused her. The first time you fall in love it changes your life forever, and no matter how hard you try, the feelin’ never goes away. And thanks to Kegan, she had that feeling towards him.

Kegan froze for a second when she asked about Liz. He didn't think anyone knew. "Carol told you?" He asked. Of course Carol had told Thalia. She'd been at the wedding, she'd been there when Beth was born, and she was there for the funeral. And Thalia was still her best friend. He should have known she'd tell her. He shrugged. "I'm holding up. It's been over a year, so..." he let his voice trail off. It must be taking a lot for Thal to even ask because...well. Liz was the girl he left her for. It had to be a bit of a sore spot for her, because they never talked it out. He just left. "How are you? You look..." Fucking sexy. "Really great. What are you doing here?"

Thalia took a sip out of her coffee, before looking back up him. "Of course Carol told me. We're still close as ever" she said with a small laugh. The laugh she remembered Kegan loved. Well, as he told her she had the best laugh in the world. She nodded, "I'm hanging in there. Teaching here and helping take care of Emily, volunteering at the gym for gymnastics. But that's only because of Emily. Otherwise I wouldn't be here"she said. Oh, Kegan probably didn't even know about the Olympic training thing unless he watched her on tv get her injury. It put her in the hospital for three to four weeks. But she doubted he watched it. It was after they broke up. He didn't even care about her after their break up for all she knew. "also, thanks. You look great too"she said with a smile. Of course he looks great, Thal. He always does. "How old is she?"she asked in reference to Beth.

Kegan looked back at his baby daughter, and his face light up. "Two. She'll be three in March. Mona and Milo are doing good, too. They'll be five in February." He pulled out a chair and sat down next to her. He sipped his latte. "I heard about your all. I would have come to see you at the hospital but..." he figured that would have been weird. He was barely married to Liz, and she probably still hated him. He didn't want to make things worse. "I'm sorry though..." He wondered if Thalia had any idea of what he'd been up to lately. If she'd seen any of his movies or if she'd forgotten he even existed.

Thalia looked down, "I had talent... All the judges knew it. If I didn't go back to be bulimic I could have made it through Olympic training. I ruined my dream.... I could have went to the Olympics... Things happen for a reason though"she said with a sigh. "Look, you didn't have to come and see me even if you did want to. You moved on to big and better things. I wasn't one of them. No need to live in the past and think of me when you were happily married and had a kid on the way..."Thalia trailed off. She couldn't continue with what she was saying... It hurt to much. "I saw some of your movies. They were really good"she said with a smile. "i see your dream ended up coming true"she took a sip of her coffee before looking over and Emily who was playing with Beth. "i haven't adopted her. In case you were wonderingby law. She's still by law. daughter by law. But if anything were to happen to them. I get her."she told him. It was crazy. She was twenty one, hot, all her friends pretty much have kids. And she didnt. Except Emily, but she doesn't necessarily count. As her kid bt law.

Kegan blushed a little, which was something he hadn't done in years. It was a strange feeling for him. He cleared his throat, and looked down. "Thanks, I um...I'm doing Broadway now. Have you seen it yet? You know Care's in it..." his voice trailed off and he shrugged. She probably hadn't seen it. If Carol had known Thalia was in the audience, she would have pulled her backstage afterwards and they would have met months ago. He looked back over his shoulder at Beth and Emily. They were both absolutely gorgeous. Mostly because of their mothers, he was sure. Kegan knew he was lucky to have been with Thalia at one point. She was beautiful then, and even more so now. There was no way she was single. "So...are you married yet?" He asked her with a nervous smile.

Thalia giggled slightly, "You've always looked so cute when you blush, Key"she teased. "No, I haven't. I've just never got around to seeing it yet. I've been... Busy"she shrugged. Busy wasn't the right word. She just didn't want to go alone. She looked down and shook her head."i haven't been with anyone since you. I haven't been out on dates , had a boyfriend, nothing"she admitted sligh tly embarressed. Everyone from fox was in a couple or had been since senior year. Except her. She felt like that lady who would end up.not married and alone with eighty cats. She was that girl in highschool who everyone would picture her being married, having kids... Happy. That never happened for her. She didn't necessarily get her some what happy ending like some people. Like Esme? Who would expect her to have such a great life in the end? No one. I guess things just happened unexpectedly. Like her and Kegans break up.

Kegan looked down. The way she said she'd stayed single the whole time...it made him feel like he'd ruined her life. Like leaving her for Liz had made Thalia never want to date again. He hoped she wasn't still in love with him, because he wouldn't be able to turn her down. Which wouldn't be a bad thing if he wasn't still in love with his dead wife. It would be like high school all over again. "I'm sorry to hear that," he said quietly taking a sip of his drink. This was more awkward than he wanted it to be. Thalia was just so...so...so Thalia. So cordial and sweet when she should have to be. She should have told him to fuck off, but of course she didn't.

Thalia shrugged, "it's fine. I'm fine with it"she said before looking up at Emily who walked over. Yeah, Thalia. You're fine with it. You're fine with the fact the boy you were fucking in love with for three years fell in love with a six within six months. You sure know how to keep the guys dating you, huh? "Mom, I have practice in five minutes we have to go"Emily said as she had Beth in her arms. "Why don't you go walk next door to the gym and i'll just meet you there when I'm done with Kegan, okay sweetie? And tell Coach i'll have the money in a week, kay?"she asked. Emily handed Beth to Kegan before leaning down and hugged Thalia, "Alright i'll tel him. And I'll text you when I get there"Emily said before walking out of the coffee shop. Money was one thing that was hard for Thalia. On a teachers salary, living in a apartment having Emily with her five out of seven days a week, paying for all of her gymnastics stuff, doctor stuff, she just had to get her all new school clothes. It was hard. Teacher's don't make that much money. And being a single half parent just made it harder. She looked back at Kegan once Emily walked out. "I have one question though- "she stopped herself, "never mind"she shook her head with a small laugh. Don't even think about asking him how he fell in love with a girl in six months. You'll just get hurt. Don't be a idiot, Thalia. You're smarter then that/

Kegan took Beth into his arms, and quickly wiped her mouth of chocolate with a napkin, as she had it all over her face. He looked back at Thalia curiously. "What? You can ask me anything" He said with a smile when she stopped in the middle of a question. Surely, it was something about being a single parent or his career or something like that. It couldn't be anything serious. This was their first time meeting in two years, she wouldn't get serious like that...would she?
