Thalia was mentally fighting with herself on if she should bring it up or.not. It was like there were two people cage fighting in there. Then she gave in. "Kegan, I just... I need to know. It took you three years to fall in loith me. I followed you to college, you promise me nothing would change. How... How in six months did everything change because of one girl? Did you forget everything we went through? I did everything I could to make you happy, I mean. I know we didn't have a lot in common like you and her did. But, why her and not me? You got married in six months. Thats half the time it took you to fall for me"she said looking down at her hands. Her tone was low and sweet as she was saying all that. It felt like high school again... She couldn't let herself fall down that path again. All the hurt and sadness she delt with just to fall in love and end up hurt again. She just wanted to know why at this point.

"Oh." Well that was certainty unexpected. Kegan stopped wiping Beth's mouth and looked at Thalia. Why? How am I supposed to answer that? Oh, it's nothing. I just met her and we instantly fell in love. I knew she was the one in the first two seconds I met her. No biggie. I don't think that's really an appropriate answer.
He bit his lip. "I don't really know," he said honestly. "Things just happen. Liz was...Liz was different. I'm sorry for how I treated you, and how that must have felt. It wasn't...What you and I had was real, but it was different between my wife and I." He shrugged and took another sip of his drink, looking everywhere but at her.

Thalia nodded, "I get it"she said. The stood up, grabbing her purse off the table before looking down at Legan. "Look, it was nice seeing you again, but I have to go. I'm sure Emily's waiting for me, and her coach is waiting to deal with money crap. So, i'll see you around I guess. I mean you live here now i'm guessing. So we will see each other"she said. She turned and started walking towards the door, not looking back. She was lying, and was sure he could tell. But she played it off.. She didn't want to let herself become attached. He's obviously moved on. She should too, right? She stopped at the trash can by the door and threw her drink away before going to open the door.
(He needs to stop her and try to get her to come sit down. She'll go bitch mode!)

Kegan picked up Beth and followed her outside. "Hey, wait!" He grabbed her arm with his free hand. "Thal, I'm sorry! I'm not sure what I said to upset you but..." he sighed. "It's been two years, Thalia. You can't hold onto that shit. People grow, and sometimes we grow apart, but that doesn't mean what he had wasn't real. I'm honestly sorry I hurt you." It'd been forever since Kegan was open like this. It was probably because Beth was around. She was the only thing that made him think of anything other than work. Truth be told though, he felt awful for hurting Thalia. She must have felt so worthless afterwards. It wasn't that he just stopped loving her, but...he realized he loved someone else more. Well maybe not more, but differently.

"That's why I'm walking away right now Kegan! I don't to hold onto it. I'm not about to start talking to you again so I fall for you and just my heart broken again! I'm not going to fall in love with you just to take the place of your ex girlfriend or your wife . I'm not going to make that mistake again. I wont let myself"Thalia pulled her arm away from him. She felt the tears coming but they didn't. She thought she was going to cry, but for once she wasn't going to. "I'm not going to be that seventeen year old girl anymore that through everything she did to be the one you wanted she got hurt in the end. I'll find someone else eventually, and if I dont... Well, I have Emily and she's the only person I need in my life right now"she said before pulling out her phone and checking the time so she avoid looking him.

Kegan sighed and dropped his hand. He didn't think he had much of a right to try and convince her to stay to talk to him. He was the one who broke her heart. "Okay. Sorry I tried," he said backing away a little. "But you come find me if you ever want to talk again. I miss you, Thal." He turned around and started to walk down the street, in the direction of Eugene O'neill Theatre where his show was playing. He sort of hoped Thalia would follow him, but he knew he didn't deserve that.

"Kegan Conley, you can't just tell me you miss me! That's not fair. Don't you think I missed you those two years? "Thalia asked as she ran behind him and grabbed his hand turning him to face her. "You know you can't just say you miss me and expect me not to react to that. How long have you missed me? Honestly? Since your wife died or before that? And tell me the truth so I know i'm not wasting my time standing here trying to talk to you"she said looking into his eyes. "I don't want to waste my time wanting the only thing that has ever made me happy. If you tell me you don't feel anything that we once had right now, i'll walk away and move on with my life"she had never been so serious in her life. She loved this man and if he didn't feel anything between them, she'd walk away. But something was telling her that he did. So she had to ask.

"I was in love with Liz and I'm still not over that. You don't get over the death of your spouse that quickly, so I can't say that I missed you until recently." Kegan spat out and then thought about what else she asked him. He shrugged. "I don't know. I'm not sure of my actual feelings for you. I just know that I miss being close to you. Whether or not we're in a relationship. I'm not looking for that right now. I need a friendship. I have a daughter, who doesn't need me bring in a bunch of different girls." He looked over at Beth, and then back to Thalia. That wasn't the answer she wanted to hear, but she at least deserved the truth.

Thalia ran a hand through her hair as she saw Emily walk out of the gym and over to them, "coach says he needs to the money now or else he'll kick me out of the gym"she said to Thalia. Thalia grabbed her checkbook out of her purse and wrote a check for two hundred dollars, then handed that to Emily. "Give it to coach, and tell him he can shove that money up his - "Thalia stopped herself before putting her hands over her face. "Just go give that to your coach"she said before turning Emily around and pushing her lightly towards the gym. She put her checkbook back into her purse, great two hundred dollars she needed to go food shopping now gone thanks to her daughters ass hole of a coach. She turned back towards Kegan, "Alright, I can do friendship"she said with a smile. "Let's go back inside though instead of standing out here"she said as she headed back for the door to the coffee shop.

Kegan followed her inside. "You're having money troubles?" He asked her. Thalia didn't accept charity, so it wasn't like he was going to offer to pay everything for her. Though he probably wouldn't mind if she really needed him to. "If you're still into acting, we're about to let one of our girls go. We're searching for someone to replace her. You could audition if you wanted to..." he shrugged. They sat back at the same table and he sipped his drink again. "If I do remember correctly, you were always pretty talented." Besides, she seemed like she could use the money. Carol was averaging around $2,000 a week. Most of it went to savings, but still. He knew teachers didn't make that kind of cash. Thalia was always good at theatre in high school, that probably hadn't changed much. If the producer liked her, she'd get the part easily. She'd make a great Martha...that is, if she wanted to take up the offer. Though knowing her, she wouldn't do it.

Thalia sighed, "I'm good at theater , but im not that good"she said with a small laugh. She couldn't help remember all those plays they did in high school. Not to mention when they did 'The rocky horror picture show' and she got the part of Janet. The look on Carol's face was priceless. She was so mad. "I don't think I would get a part anyways, I'm just not good enough. I mean if it was high school. Yes. But not for an actually thing Kegan" she said. Then thought about how he asked if she was having money troubles. "I get Emily five out of seven days a week so I have to buy her stuff, I pay for my apartment, buy food for us, pay for her gym membership, and just bought her all new school clothes off of a teacher salary. All my money goes towards paying for my apartment, getting food, and taking care of Emily. So, you could say i'm struggling"she said embarressed. She didn't want to be telling her ex boyfriend how poorly she was living. But to late now.

Kegan looked down. "Well, it wouldn't hurt to audition. I mean, I know you probably love working with those kids, but if it's not paying the bills..." he shrugged. He wasn't even sure why he was trying. There was no way Thalia was going to take him up on it, no matter what. She was too prideful. He could be offering her a dollar, and she wouldn't even take that.
"Look, I'm not trying to be nosy or overbearing, but I just think it could be good for you and Emily. I know that if I were struggling with Beth, I'd do anything to make things easier on her. This isn't charity, Thalia. Just auditioning won't be a big deal."

Thalia looked up at Kegan, "I guess it couldn't hurt to audition..."she said as she thought about it for a second. "When are auditions?"she asked. It wasn't even the fact that she loved working with the kids, that she wanted to keep her job. It was the fact so many people treat them differently then she does. They treat them like they're different then the other kids, but with Thalia she treats them like normal people. The girls at her job even tell her the kids act differently when she isn't there. They aren't happy and their days are just harder on them. When you hear you have that big of a impact on someones life, it takes a lot of thought to just walk out of it.
"Oh my god! Mom! You wont believe what happened! You really wont but take a guess. You have to guess!"Emily squealed as she ran into the coffee shop tapping Thalia's shoulder over and over again. Thalia looked up at Emily with a small laugh, "What happened, hun?"she asked her daughter. " I landed my front handspring front tuck on the foor! I'm so happy! And it's all because we spent those two hours earlier before practice working on it. Thank you for helping me learn how to land it!"Emily said as she grabbed Thalia hugging her tightly. "Em, that's great! You don't have to thank me. I'm your mom, i'm going to help you with whatever I can"she asked. Emily smiled, "I know! I know! I just wanted to thank you because if it wasn't for you I wouldn't have landed it!"she said before sitting down across from her and Kegan.

Kegan bounced Beth on his knee as he looked from Thalia to Emily. It was crazy how similar they were. It made him sad knowing that Beth was never going to have a mother. Maybe someday she'd have a step mom, but...she would never know the woman who gave birth to her, and that was the one thing that made him just want to die. And if it weren't for Beth being in the picture, he probably would have when Liz died.
He smiled at the mother daughter combo, and then answered Thalia's previous question. "Just set up and appointment with my assistant, and we can do a private audition with the producer. It's not really an open thing, because he won't need a whole bunch of waitresses who want to act coming up." He shrugged, and pulled his card out of his pocket. He slid it across the table to Thalia. "That has my office phone and my cell phone. I'm kind of bad at answering though, so your best bet is to call the office."

Thalia took the card of the table and placed it in her wallet. She looked up at Kegan with a smile, "Thank you, Kegan. I really appreciate it. I'll make an appointment when I get home tonight"she said. "You've always been bad at answering your phone, that's nothing new"she teased with a small laugh. She looked at Beth on Kegans lap, then back at Kegan. It was so cute how much they looked alike. Beth was going to be gorgeous when she gets older. "Mona and Milo... How are they? I haven't seen them since they a couple days before I moved out... How Dexxie?"she asked. Thalia's mind got a huge thought and she looked back at Kegan, "How is your mom and your dad!?"she asked. She missed Mrs. Conley more then anything. I mean, she was like the mother Thalia never had. She always was looking out for Thalia, calling her "her Thalia" . It was adorable the way Mrs. Conley cared for her. Not to mention when she stayed with them that whole summer since her dad was out of town.
