Jon had decided to take a day off from work since well, he'd been spending a little too much time working and/or taking care of Cici rather than using his spare time to actually spend with his own girlfriend. And even though they were always together when his daughter was around, it felt like they hadn't spent any time with each other in forever -- and that was saying something, they lived together.
So, there they were, at the New York Aquarium, walking through a tunnel under a gigantic fish tank. It was both a frightening and beautiful sight, it actually looked like they were underwater! Fish were swimming all around them wherever they looked, and Jon felt safe, especially because he knew none of the fish were strong enough to break through the glass and potentially attack him like a kangaroo.
"How do you like your penguin, babe?" Jon smiled, referring to the stuffed toy he'd bought her at the gift shop earlier after they'd caught the penguin show when they'd first arrived.

Spending time with Jonathan, finally, was so nice. They didn't spend enough one-on-one time together anymore. With both of them having pretty high maintenance careers, almost no time was left to sit down and talk or to go out and have dinner or anything Avery would like to do with her boyfriend. Even though they shared an apartment and a bed, it felt like she only saw him for, like, five minutes every day. That's bad.
"It's cute! And squishy," Avery giggled. She did feel a little silly, being twenty-two years old and carrying a stuffed animal around, but that was definitely the little kid in her coming out, as always. "Oh! It's like you! But.. you're not squishy. You're cute!" Not thinking before speaking, as usual. Oh, Avery. Hopefully he didn't take that the wrong way.
Avery looked up at the fish tunnel thing above their heads and surrounding them. It was pretty cool to see all the little fish and other sea creatures swimming or floating around you. It was almost like actually being in the water with the animals. "Babe," Avery said, curling her free hand around Jonathan's bicep. "Thank you, for this. I know it sounds silly, but I've really missed you lately."

Jon stopped in the middle of their steps to lean down and kiss her softly, then smiled, "I've missed you too," he started up walking again, admiring the view of all the exotic fish floating around with the colorful seaweed floating in the water. They'd been there only once before, with Cici, but it was different this time -- they were able to actually act like and be a couple, rather than a couple of roommates taking care of one of the roommate's spawning. It was relaxing. They hadn't gone on a real date since about the middle of college.
"One of these days, we really oughta find time to go out on a vacation," he half-laughed, "Seems like I always have work when you're off and vice versa," he shook his head, "I want more days like this. We need to compromise more."

"Oh, Jon!" Avery squealed. "I would absolutely love to go on vacation with you. As much as my clients need me.. I would love to drop them for a week and go somewhere with you," She smiled and squeezed his arm happily.
In all honesty, work had consumed the both of them. They both had clients they got to know all too well and care for in some way, and it wasn't easy to cancel an appointment with one just to sit around and be lazy together with some take out. They both had careers that had clients that really needed them.
Avery glanced around at the fish again. It was hard not to. They were really pretty and interesting to watch, beside the fact that there wasn't much else to look at in the little tunnel. By now, they were almost to the end, and she could see the next exhibit - Sharks.

Taking her hand and enlacing his fingers with hers, Jon let out a sigh, "You know, I almost miss high school?" he laughed, "At least at Foxhurst we could do whatever we wanted, when we wanted to..." he shrugged, thinking back to the days when things with their relationship were much easier. Well, maybe not easier in an emotional sense, seeing as their relationship was pretty bumpy when they'd first gotten back together after the whole Esme thing, but it was easier to make an effort to fix the problems they had. Not that they really had a problem now other than being so busy all the time, "Gee, I just made us sound really old," he scrunched his eyebrows together, "It's been a long time, hasn't it? Can't believe we graduated only four years ago." Coming to another realization, Jon let out a breath, "Can't believe we got together over four years ago." Turning to Avery, he flashed her a smile, "Looks like we made it, eh?"

"Foxhurst was definitely easier. No working, no.. well no nothing really. We didn't have bills or responsibilities or.." Her voice trailed off a bit, "Children." Sure Avery was very fond of Cici - She was a cutie! But knowing that her first child wouldn't also be Jon's first child was really hard. They wouldn't share the joy of having their first baby, or the stress of not knowing what to do, or the first time picking out things for the baby. But things happen for a reason, right?
Avery stopped walking and threw her arms around Jonathan, despite being in the middle of the shark exhibit and surrounded by people, some of which gave the couple dirty, irritated looks. "We did make it, Johnny," she cooed, pulling her head back a bit in order to peck him on the lips. After everything they went through, they made it. Jonathan and Avery, despite all the doubts and troubles, were still together through everything.

"I love you so much," Jon assured with a smile on his face. He almost couldn't believe they were able to last so long, especially through everything. He'd fucked up so bad, even more so than he did with Cassidy, he believed. He had fallen in love with someone else and then had a child with them. Jon thought for sure he'd had lost Avery for good, but now, he had her. He really had her and he wasn't going to let go of her any time soon. "You know what? This week, let's cancel all our client appointments. Take the week off, make it a Javery week."

Laying her head on Jonathan's chest, Avery looked up at him through her eyelashes. It was a little awkward given that they were in the middle of the aquarium, but oh well. They were in love, who cares? When he suggested taking the entire week off just to spend some time together, she was very surprised. "Are you.. Are you serious?" She questioned, releasing her arms from around him, taking a step back, and holding his hands.
"Like really? A week? Just for us? You'd do that?" She beamed, hoping he was being one hundred percent serious. She would call right then and there and cancel everything. Mr. Jamison can wait, he doesn't need to settle his divorce right now. Nevermind his affair with the maid. That'll all get sorted out next week.

Flaunting the fact that he was in love was sort of something Jon had grown accustomed to since the period of time he was with Esme. It kind of gave him some sort of confidence boost, having others stare at him with his significant other, envying the two and wishing they could have something like that... it was a good feeling. A bit arrogant, but made him feel good nevertheless. He smirked as he saw the passerbys giving he and Avery looks, then slid his arms around the girl's waist, "I would," he insisted, "What do you say?"

Avery squealed. Honestly, she sounded a little lit a gineau pig, but nevertheless it was pretty cute. "I say yes! A million times yes," She said, pulling him closer and planting a kiss on his lips. A whole week, just the two of them? That seriously never happened, like ever. Safe to say Avery had never been this excited.
"What are we gonna do? Where are we gonna go?" She said, a million and five ideas flying through her brain. Pretty much every cute couple-y thing out of any movie she'd ever seen was playing out in her mind.
