"What are you laughing at huh?" Mark asked, putting his hands on his hips and moving his head in a sassy motion before returning to a regular stance and leaning against the counter with his arms crossed as he discreetly watched her. Now, Elaine was quite a steal too. She was beautiful, humorous and above it all, she was interesting. There was so much to her, Mark believed, that not even a hundred years with her could be enough to know what she was all about. He sighed softly before looking down to his feet and smiling closed at the ground.
"Oh so you are not so far along. That's good, you both don't know how happy me and Tyrone are. But now, we have to go take Mia to ballet classes, we'll talk later. Adios cariños!" she waited a few seconds for Elaine and Mark to say goodbye too.
"Goodbye! Love you!" Mark always said he loved his parents before saying goodbye. He was the type of person to tell somebody everything he needed to say and everything they needed to know. Who knew when it could be the last time they spoke or saw each other?
With Elaine he wanted to be honest and tell her how he really felt but he was afraid that she might run away because the feelings weren't mutual or worse — things wouldn't be the same. He glanced to her before taking a seat on the chair by the counter.
"What do you think of the name Mariela, for a girl and Victor for a boy?" Mark asked, looking to the pan where she was making the pancakes. It seemed as if he was deep in thought or really just concentrating on them pancakes. He didn't answer her question, however. It made him feel bad but if she wanted to know so bad she would insist, right?

Elaine held the phone away from her ear and blinked her eyes at Mark as if to say "Oh no you didn't" and then smiled to show that she was only kidding. She almost forgot that she was on the phone as she watched him lean on the counter with his arms crossed. Did he know just how handsome he looked doing that? All mysterious and deep in thought and shizz.
"Thank you," Elaine was truly grateful for such supporting in-laws parents. "Goodbye, now," she said in return, stifling her laughter. Even though there was absolutely nothing wrong with doing so, Mark looked extremely cute when he told his parents he loved them. She hoped that years from now, their children would take after their father and be unafraid to express their feelings, no matter how old they were. Well that is, of course, if Mark were to marry her.
She thought for a moment, repeating the names over and over in her head to see if she liked them. "I love those names," Elaine finally said. She loved the way that Mariela just rolled off her tongue so smoothly and how Victor gave her the image of a strong, healthy boy. "Someone's got their thinking cap on, huh?" she teased him before flipping the pancakes over. They were golden brown on one side and already starting to get fluffy on the inside.
"What were you going to say earlier? You've never had to rethink what you were about to say before. C'mon, now. It's not like I have tissue paper skin," Elaine's curiosity got the best of her and while normally she did not pry, if it involved the baby, it most certainly involved her. "Or is it a secret and if you tell me you'd have to kill me too?" she asked, widening her eyes as if Mark would even do such a thing.

A soft laugh escaped Mark as he loosened up and made himself more comfortable on the stool. He then poked the side of his head before closing an eye, "I've been out of school for a few years and my noggin is still a-kicking." he said this in an accent that those men in the old Western movies had. He then smiled brightly, he was glad that she was pleased with the names he'd thought of. Mark didn't want to have Elaine think that he was dominating the baby. He was actually going to consult her in every idea he had for the child. Every single one. After all, she was the mother and hopefully by then his wife.
"I'm glad you like them." he nodded, looking down to the pancakes which were looking rather scrumptious, by the way. He then looked to her before raising an eyebrow, he grabbed the butter knife, upside down and said, "I will have to cut you." he put on a serious, psychotic look on his face before smiling big and setting the knife down.
Mark then took a deep breath and it was evident as he pumped his chest then slowly let it down. "Elaine, you're going to be the mother of my child." he began before bringing his arms forward. "I don't want this to be an excuse for us to be together. I hope it isn't; I've loved you for a long time." he nodded looking to her in the most honest way there could ever be.
"What I was going to say back then was that if maybe... If you wanted we could get married... I know there are couples who aren't entirely in love when they get married but - well - my parents said they weren't in love when they got married but they shared this strong affection towards each other... One doesn't necessarily have to abide by the fairy tales that specifically advise people to marry only if they're in love because one doesn't really know someone without living and spending time with them... I don't think..." he continued to ramble. Mark averted his eyes from Elaine once he began to speak nonsense. "I'd just like for us to build a family."

Elaine smiled a closed smile, but it was a big smile nonetheless. She was touched by Mark's words and at the same time amused by his almost nonsensical rambling. Her eyes were a little teary and she wasn't sure if it was the extra hormones running through her body or this was truly an emotional moment for her. Probably both.
"The child is a blessing, Mark, but it won't be the only reason we'll be together. If you asked me to be with you any time before this, I'm positive I would've said yes in a heartbeat. So positive, it's HIV positive," What started out as a heartfelt confession ended in a rather lame effort to be funny. "I'm sorry, that was a really bad joke," Elaine apologized.
Her heart was beating fast enough to propel itself up her esophagus and out of her mouth. The room suddenly felt very hot and the fact that she was standing next to the stove didn't help. It was all happening so fast, but Elaine wasn't scared because she had the right person by her side—someone who would always bring out the best in her and also grow old with her.
"It's okay, silly. I know exactly what you mean," she said softly. Elaine's parents had an arranged marriage. There were several occasions where her father was sent to visit her mother as a sort date to get to know each other better, but she always find a way to bail out. Finally, on their wedding day, they saw each other for the first time and although they weren't in love, he began to care for her and she, him. Her parents are still together to this day and their story never fails to give her hope for her own happy ever after.
"Eat up, Papa Bear. We've got a lot of work to do," Elaine grinned as she stacked the pancakes on to a plate. It didn't have to happen right away, but just the thought of planning their future together made her shiver with excitement.

Mark looked to her almost in disbelief. He stared at her with widened eyes as he kept almost no emotion in his face. At first, he didn't catch what she said but then he repeated all her words and his smile grew. He then smiled brightly, his eyes matching the curve of his mouth before he laughed softly.
"Well, we wouldn't want our union to be an incurable, fatal virus... It's not very beautiful." he said keeping that foolish grin. He could feel his palms getting sweaty, his head feeling light and his heart beating a thousands beats per minute. Calm yourself, Mark. It was a internal note he gave himself but the emotion was so much he just couldn't. He had this vision of them establishing dreams, projects and spending time around a campfire wrapped a in a blanket. He had matured since his high school years and he now looked for a wife, lover, a best friend and a rock - a solidity to keep him up on his feet and on Earth. That's it. Elaine filled up all the requisites.
Mark looked up to her once again, looking to the pancakes with his mouth a-gape. It was one of those moments when there was so much emotion and affection inside of you towards another that you couldn't hide it. He stood up from his seat and slowly made his way towards her. Once he was close to her, Mark cupped the side of her face gently before leaning forward and kissing her softly.

Elaine stuck her tongue out in response. "Well, you're not very beautiful," she retorted. Sometimes her jokes were a lot funnier inside her head. Venereal diseases were not a laughing matter, but luckily for Elaine, Mark knew exactly where she was getting that and at least he thought it was a little funny.
She couldn't wait for their adventures together. It would be like old times. Elaine didn't expect fancy dinners and expensive gifts, no. From road trips to little things like coffee together in the morning, it didn't matter what they did, she really just enjoyed his company.
Seeing his jaw practically hit the floor (an exaggeration in her head, really), Elaine thought he was surprised to see how many pancakes she could whip up in such a short amount of time. As it turns out, she was the one taken by surprise when Mark finally kissed her. She returned the kiss, but not before feeling a bit awkward with her arms just hanging there by her sides.
'What do I do with my hands? I don't know. He'll think I'm a lifeless fish... Just focus!' Elaine pushed the argument with herself out of her mind so that she could simply enjoy the gesture of affection. She smiled into his lips before pulling away just enough to look up into his eyes. She was speechless—too content to have anything to say.

Mark's lips lingered for a few seconds but he pulled away once Elaine had. He kept his eyes closed before his lips curved into a thoughtful and blissful smile. "Just as I thought it would feel like." he laughed before opening his eyes and finding hers looking up to his own. After a second of silence, he moved to pull a chair back for her. "We don't want the pancakes gettin' cold!" Mark said in a wholehearted tone before smiling closed.
He moved back to his own chair before saying, "Oh, we forgot the syrup..." he got up once again. Almost rather clumsy and hesitant to say the least and got at once to forge for the said maple syrup. Once Mark found it, he took it then looked to Elaine, "Should I get milk?" he asked her.
This. It was new to him and probably to her. They were about to establish a family and promise an eternity together. At the age of twenty-four, Mark was more than happy to have that happen. What more could he want? He was wealthy, off the own sweat of his forehead and sure, maybe the baby wasn't planned but that didn't matter because he or she is going to be welcomed into a loving home. Parents who wanted nothing but to smother the darling thing with hugs and kisses. That's all.

Elaine opened her mouth to gasp silently. "And what did you think it would feel like? I'm not Froggie Mcfroggie lips over here!" she pretended to argue before opening a drawer to take out a pair of forks and a pair of knives. Then, she took her seat with a silly grin. "There's butter and stuff, too," Elaine said, pointing at her refrigerator. Personally, she didn't put butter on her pancakes or waffles, but places like IHOP did and well, maybe Mark was a fan of it.
"Nuh uh," she shook her head. "I don't like to drink milk," Although she uses milk as an ingredient for many of her recipes, the only time Elaine could ever be caught drinking milk was in a bowl with cereal. Growing up, kids would always tease her, saying that she was so short because she never drank milk.
Supporting her head with her chin on her hands, she watched as Mark maneuvered his way around her kitchen. Soon enough, that would be her, finding her way around in his apartment. Elaine was quite excited to have someone to have breakfast and dinner with everyday. Lunch was a "maybe" because of work, but she was sure that they could make time for each other every now and then especially since she was quitting her current job and would be at home until she found another one.

Mark took the syrup and butter before turning his body slightly to look to Elaine. He then shifted his eyes up in thought, "Mmm..." he pursed his lips together while pretending to ponder. "I thought it was going to feel good and it was good." Mark said before bumping the fridge door with his hip and then smiling coyly to her before walking back to the table and setting the syrup, butter and milk.
After taking a seat, Mark began to prepare his pancakes the way he liked them. He placed a fairly thick square of butter on the middle of the top pancake and then continued with smothering them with maple syrup. Mark thought they looked absolutely delicious but maybe the other eyes would probably find the plate to look extremely loaded with calories and cholesterol.
His mouth suddenly dropped, as if he were flabbergasted by the fact that Elaine did not like milk. "Oh dear, that just won't do." he tsk'ed before asking her, "So, you're not a fan of lattes or any drinks that involve milk? Or do you just not like to drink milk alone?" This was exclusive information that Mark needed to know about her. It may have seen a bit of a cheesy exaggeration but one day, he wanted to be familiar with everything that his future wife liked and didn't like.
Mark cut a slice and then ate it. It may have been because he really truly loved Elaine but these pancakes were the best he had ever tasted! "We should have had these pancakes that morning... These are great." he said with a full mouth before taking a drink from his glass of milk. "So for the extra room in my... our apartment," Mark corrected himself because it wasn't only his home anymore — it was theirs. He felt so excited about it inside that he could jump and dance but he was playing it cool. His joyful interior would probably scare Elaine off her pants. Which wasn't such a bad idea.
"I want it to be the baby's nursery. I think that we should start decorating it right after we know the gender." Mark was excited about everything. They were about to raise an individual that would grow up under more privilege than what they grew in. He wasn't afraid of raising the child because there were two. But now wasn't the time to think about the future! The baby was only three months old, there's plenty of time to think about that.

Elaine stared at Mark's plate as if had grown legs and began to crawl away. Then, she looked up at him as if he were just as strange. His eating habits actually didn't bother her at all. In fact, she had some weird ones herself, like mixing ketchup with her macaroni and cheese. As for breakfast however, Elaine liked to keep her syrup on one side of the plate, dipping her pancake or waffle rather than smothering it because it gets soggy if you don't eat it quick enough.
"Oh, I love coffee. I try to limit my intake to once every few months, but now that," she paused to lean back slightly and gestured to her tummy. "No more coffee for me. I just can't drink milk alone. Yucky," she stuck her tongue out in a displeased manner. "Is there anything that you don't like?" Elaine liked the idea of sharing their "secrets" even though not liking milk was hardly a secret. Then again, it wasn't as if she went around announcing it. "Why, thank you. I try," she did a little curtsy in her seat after Mark complimented her cooking.
She nodded at his suggestion for his spare room. "We should make a doctor's appointment soon," she said, swirling her fork in syrup. Wait, if the extra room went to the baby... then Elaine would be sharing a room with Mark? The thought made her blush despite the fact that he'd just mentioned marriage just a few moments earlier. Nevertheless, it was an exciting thought to go shopping for baby stuff, regardless of the gender. Baby things were just so cute!

When Elaine began staring at Mark's plate like it had arms and legs, he paused and rose an eyebrow before pursing his lips. "Boo." he said as if he were asking her what she was looking at, all playfully of course. He then continued eating his delicious plate while he listened to her speak. Mark noticed the way she was eating her pancakes and he thought it was very cute. He couldn't possibly imagine when the baby was born. Everything the child would do would be precious and wonderful, he just knew it.
"Me too!" Mark knew that Elaine loved coffee because when they were younger they used to drink plenty of it at cafes. He was just wondering because well, maybe she only liked a certain type of coffee. "Pregnant women can't drink coffee? My mom used to drink coffee when she was expecting me." he laughed. Miranda did so many crazy things while she was pregnant with her only boy that it was a miracle that Mark was okay. "But my mom is nuts...yeah." he pursed his lips together as he brought his glass of milk to his lips before taking a drink.
Mark then placed his glass of milk down and began cutting another slice of his pancakes. "I don't like papaya, beats, steamed carrots and celery. I hate celery." he made a face, a disgusted face that was so horrible before relaxing his visage as if he had done nothing. "I don't get the point of beats they have no taste. And celery with peanut butter? Yikes." he continued eating his pancakes happily.
"Does this make me sound picky?" Mark wouldn't want to sound as if he were some hard to please guy. He looked to her, "I like a lot of things and people too. One specific person." He nodded in an as a matter of fact manner.
"Yes! Let's make it as soon as possible, just to kill the curiosity." Mark said with a wink before taking another drink from his glass of milk. He noticed she blushed when he brought up the room in his apartment. "You're blushing." he said quietly before looking down to his plate of pancakes. "Why?" he asked before he looked up to her. Mark would gladly take the couch in the living room if it made her uncomfortable sharing a bed with him or sleeping together. Although he couldn't understand why, they had already shared one.

Elaine scrunched her nose at Mark when he booed her. "Well, a little bit of coffee is okay, but caffeine intake is not recommended for pregnant women," she answered his question. She only knew this because of her brothers' wives when they were expecting. Even though it was safe to have just a little bit of coffee everyday, Elaine was sure that Mark was odd and quirky the way he was all on his own.
"My goodness, how did you grow so tall without your veggies?" she asked, surprised that he disliked what she liked to consider the "mild" veggies—vegetables with little to no taste, making it all the easier to consume. Usually the most hated greens are brussel sprouts or peas, but it seemed Mark wasn't a fan. "Yes, you are a picky little eater. I love beets! My mom used to make soup with them and it was bright red and my brothers and I pretended we were vampires drinking blood!" she realized then how weird it sounded to say that out loud. but shrugged because it was Elaine after all.
She looked up at him with innocent little puppy eyes when he questioned her blushing. No way was she going to tell him what went on inside her head! "No reason! But you better bet your bedazzled socks that I won't tolerate you hogging the covers!" she threatened him. As for the child, discovering the gender on the day of his or her birth would be so exciting and perfect, but lets be honest, who could possibly wait an entire nine months for that? Elaine was making that appointment first thing tomorrow morning.

Mark looked forward, his face looked thoughtful. He pursed his lips together while knitted his full eyebrows. "Hmm!" he said before washing down the pancakes inside of his mouth. All of a sudden he began cackling as if he were looney tunes. "I don't think I'm odd..." he resumed eating after that message. He then rose an eyebrow, how did he grow so tall?
Shaquille O'Neil was probably his real daddy. Well, no Tyrone Daniels was and Tyrone was very tall; six foot two just like his son. Even Giselle was tall, she stood about five foot seven. It was genetics. "Have you seen my dad!? He's a tall dude. And I drank lots of milk, but I don't like drinking it alone... I do like chocolate milk." he added with a nod as he looked to her while speaking. "You do know that beets are from the Devil's garden? That's the grown blood of all the sinners that go down there after they die." Mark nodded as if he were serious.
"Am I going to have to tickle the truth out of you?" He rose a brow before letting down his fork and knife because he was finished. Mark stared at her intently as if he were going to get up any minute to tickle her. "Excuse me I do not I repeat do not hog the covers. That was all you giving me the covers." Mark sounded as he was offended and bothered. "If you're gonna keep accusing me like that well then you'll be sleeping with the dog in his dog house. I'll be." he huffed before crossing his arms.
