Elliot was actually surprised that she didn't get mad that they left her in the living room by herself. Instead, when they came in, frozen because Elliot was stupid and didn't bring coats, she immediately became very nurturing. This was Jack's cue to leave, besides he was supposed to meet with Baker at the club! He had nearly forgotten that. "I'll see you guys later!" He said as he showed himself to the door. He gave Elliot a thumbs up as he left
"Jack said to tell you by. He had some things to go do." Elliot laughed. He wasn't sure why she was suddenly being all motherly to him, but he wasn't going to complain. As he sat on the couch and waiting for her return, he stared at the TV blankly. His mind was elsewhere, rolling around his proposal.
The more he thought about it, the more detailed it became and the sweeter it got. His first idea was to just wake her up and ask. But then it got a little deeper and he would wake her up by his guitar. Then he thought about making it more romantic and memorable and that's where the roses came in. Next he thought about making the single petal line from the fresh rose petals the trailed from the bed, down the stairs, and lead her outside where he would be sitting with his guitar and two chairs. He'd let her sit with him for a few minutes before he changed the song from a wordless riff to something a little more appropriate. He was going to sing Marry Me by Train and hope that she said yes.
He didn't have any doubts about her answer, and he really wanted it to be special, something she could tell her friends who would say they wish they had that, or why didn't soandso do that for me? Elliot wanted her to be proud and reminded how much that he loved her, especially after everything that happened earlier that morning.
Raine returned with a mug of hot tea which he took and sipped. It was still near boiling temperatures, but he didn't care because she always made it perfectly. Elliot patted the open space between his legs, indicated that he wanted her to come lay with him. She could lay her head on his stomach and he could play with the underneath of her hair, which in some weird way made him extremely calm and happy.

Raine hadn't realized how cold that she actually was until Elliot let her know that he wanted her to lay down with him. She snuggled as close as she possibly could to his body as a content sigh escaped her lips. "Is this okay? I know that it isn't exactly sexual... at all and I sort of promised a bed rocking awesome night but maybe we could do this instead?" She didn't feel sick just sort of disconnected and she wanted to change that as soon as possible. "We can just lay here and sort of forget the outside world."
It was probably going to snow all night and she was going to leave the window in their bedroom open just a crack so he would have to snuggle extra close to stay warm. She wouldn't tell him that, obviously! If he questioned her on it then she would just think of a really good lie... what could she even tell him? Well she would just have to hope that he didn't think to ask! "I'll be right back, baby... I'm going to change into something more comfortable." There was a time when that would have meant lingerie.
Tonight was not one of those nights.
She returned to his side in sweatpants, no make up and her glasses on. Pregnancy was making her eyes dry and her contacts had been more irritating to wear but she hated her glasses enough that the discomfort was worth it. "I know, I look like a loser in my glasses but I couldn't exactly keep my contacts in and well you know how bad my eyesight is." It wasn't actually /that/ bad but she did need her glasses when she wasn't wearing her contacts.
She missed this. She missed the days before they even started having sex and they just laid around and watched movies. She loved the unborn babies that were inside of her but she longed for the days when she didn't feel like they had to have sex whenever they saw each other. It wasn't that he in any way pressured her! She just felt like if she wasn't putting out then he'd start to resent her and then what would she do? Raise their daughters alone?
It wasn't worth it but she wasn't caving. Tonight, she wasn't going to put out even if she really really still wanted to because of the earlier incident.

He waited patiently for her return and when she did appear, he couldn't help but smile. He loved when she wore her glasses. He loved that she was comfortable enough to laze around without makeup or fancy hair and clothes, just like this. He loved this and it reminded him of why he wanted to propose in the first place. Now that he had the perfect plan, he was ready. All the years prior had never felt as right as they did at that moment.
"You always look beautiful, love." When she laid back down, he pulled her up to his chest so that he could play with her hair. Elliot would always twirl the ends of her silky long locks around his finger which seemed to help calm him down. And the level that his nerves were right now from the anxiety of a proposal, he needed to be calm. "I miss this." Elliot admitted after a short time.
"Raine?" He started after another break. He wasn't even sure what he wasn't going to ask. He wanted to ask her how she thought about marriage, but that would surely blow his cover! This needed to be a surprise. Elliot bent his head down to kiss the top of her hair. "I love you." He smiled as he put his head back onto the arm rest.

It was nice to just lay with Elliot like this and not really worry too much about how she looked. She could feel her eyelids getting heavier and she took her glasses off just in case she happened to fall asleep on him which she was hoping wouldn't happen. "Elliot.... Are you okay?" He seemed sort of off and she couldn't help but worry. "I mean.... you can tell me if you aren't." What could possibly be wrong with him? He had his somewhat okay looking girlfriend snuggled up as close as possible to him and they were expecting twins that they no longer had to hide!
She couldn't just fall asleep on him even if he never complained about it. He could mind! She just didn't want him to feel uncomfortable. She had to, at the very least, stay awake until he answered her question, right? What if he decided that he wanted to really open up about some deep issues that he had? She could feel herself drifting into a peaceful sleep but she fought to wake up as not to upset him. "Sorry..." She mumbled even if she wasn't that sorry.
She hadn't slept at all the night before and everyone knows how exhausting the first trimester is and something about Elliot was comforting. Safe. She felt like she could sleep like this and nothing bad would ever happen because he would protect her from any dangers even the ones that were in her head like when she absolutely swore that she heard someone trying to break into her old apartment.

He stopped twirling her hair and tried to lean to look at her. She looked like she was wanting to fall asleep, and that was always fine with him. He felt needed when she fell asleep on him, even in a literal sense. "I'm fine, baby. I'm absolutely perfect, actually." Elliot laid his hand on her shoulder and turned off the t.v.
"What do you say we head to bed? I need to drive my parents to the airport in the morning." He leaned up, trying not to bend her in a strange way and hurt her, and let his hand slide down her back. "C'mon, I'll tuck you in and everything." He made sure their new door was locked and the dogs were alright before he walked with Raine to their new bedroom. Elliot let her do what she needed and lay down before he covered her up, turned out the light and hopped in the other side of the bed and snuggled up next to her.
He laid his arm out to his side which normally meant that he wanted her do cuddle next to him. He pulled the blankets up to their necks and sighed contently. The morning was going to be some kind of crazy. He tried to hide his smile in the darkness of the room as he lifted her chin up and kissed her. "Sleep well, my beautiful penguin."

Raine was barely able to even walk to their bed! She was just suddenly exhausted! She practically had all of her weight on him as he lead her up the stairs. She was soon snuggled against him all cozy under the blankets and she knew that was all she needed. She had wanted to become a famous ballerina but all she would ever need was right next to her. She yawned into her palm and tried to not fall asleep just yet... she didn't want him to think that she was being rude to him!
"Good night..." She mumbled under her breath as she moved closer to him. It was so chilly in there that she felt like she had to be close if she didn't want to freeze to death! Plus, she loved being close like this to her hopefully future husband if things worked out. She usually dreamed about Elliot. She usually had wonderful dreams where they skipped through a meadow until they reached a floral alter and they'd get married with the birds singing the sweetest love song and the bunnies bouncing around like adorable little darlings.
Tonight was different.
Tonight she dreamt of Dallas Kennedy and a future that she didn't recognize. She couldn't put her finger on it but she was comfortable in the dream as if she lived there and there were three little boys running around in the backyard. She didn't like this one bit but she apparently did in the dream... Dallas fucking Kennedy. It turned raunchy until he pulled off of her with a devilish smirk. "You think you can just forget us? Our baby? What kind of a mother are you?"
What kind of a mother was she?

{his outfit pretty much. no glasses, obvi.}
Elliot had slipped into a light sleep, and was waking up periodically all night and then when he would fall asleep, he'd toss and turn. Maybe it was his mind running wild with excitement and nervousness, or the fact that he was freezing.
He woke up at fifteen minutes before his alarm went off so he went ahead and turned it off and got out of bed - carefully as not to wake Raine. Elliot covered her back up and kissed her forehead before he headed downstairs. His parents were already packed up and awake, ready to leave for the airport. "Let me throw on some clothes and I'll be ready to go." He told them as he headed back upstairs and quietly dug through a box of his clothes. He pulled out a pair of black straight legged jeans, and a black t-shirt before heading back downstairs for his coat.
"I'm ready." Elliot said as he helped with their luggage. On the drive to the airport, he told his parents about his plan, showed them the ring and got tears and congratulations in advance. They seemed so happy for their son and soon-to-be daughter in law. When they got to the terminal, his mother was practically in tears and doing a poor job of hiding it. "I'm so proud of you, Elliot. Don't be such a stranger to come and visit." She said, hugging him. His dad followed with a hug of his own, "We'll see you two in the Spring, right?" Elliot nodded, not wanting them to leave. "Call me when you guys reach London." Elliot said, putting on a fake smile. Sometimes he wished they'd never sent him to New York. They never got to see him grow into a young adult the way other parents did, they never got to help him straighten his tie for prom or help him decide on colleges. "I miss you guys." He said, bringing them in for another hug. "I love you."
They trio parted ways at the gate and he watched their plane leave before he headed to his car and to the store for the roses. It was time to execute his plan. He returned home and got a piece of of paper to write all of his little notes on. Then he picked apart the roses so that all the petals were separated and single. He wrote out his notes and then went to set up outside. He out his guitar in on of the two chairs for later.
Elliot started upstairs in the bedroom, sneaking into the bedroom as not to wake Raine. He placed one full rose behind the first letter. It read 'Good morning, my beautiful lady.' He made a little trail that led out the bedroom and into the hall. Before the first step down the stairs, he laid another note that read '1. The things I love in life are nothing compared to what I love in you.' The trail led down the stairs and at the end was another note reading 'Your smile and the way your nose wrinkles when you laugh makes me get butterflies every single time.'
More petals led to the closet where the next note was hung on the door. 'Get your coat, it's cold outside." The rest of the petals led to the back door where the last note hung on the foggy window. 'Now come sit with me. I want to make you smile.' Elliot placed a circle of roses around the two chairs and sat in one. The snow on the ground was nearly untouched and he sat down and started to quietly play his guitar. It wasn't anything specific, just a little riff that he was making up from the top of his head. The ring in his pocket felt as it weighed fifty pounds! He couldn't stop smiling at the thought that his plan was going to be executed so perfectly. He was finally going to ask Raine to marry him.

{ www.polyvore.com/raineeeee/set?id=61898540 this is what she changes into, Joeyyy}
Raine hadn't gotten much sleep the night before. She had spent the majority of her time dreaming about Dallas Kennedy and the baby that they had lost more than five years ago. She woke up once or twice during the night and found herself snuggling closer and closer to Elliot until she practically had a death grip on his body yet she didn't wake up when he got up to take his parents to the airport. She was already in a deep sleep by that point. Her dreams from that point were happier - she imagined a life with Elliot and their daughters and there was no evil Dallas Kennedy or demon five year old who wanted to murder her. Yeah that was an interesting twist to an already horrifying dream. She woke up all ready to snuggle into Elliot's body but she nearly rolled off of the bed in attempt to get close to him. Where in the hell did he run off to this early in the morning? Things didn't make sense until she saw the note, the rose and then the petals. What was he planning? And could it wait until she got dressed? She decided quickly that he could wait a couple of minutes while she put on some real clothes and brushed her teeth before she headed down the trail.
If this was some creative way to get laid than she was definitely going to be considering putting out. Yeah, she was still a little upset that he left her so unsatisfied the night before because he wanted a freaking piece of cake! But this was really sweet especially the cute little notes... She couldn't help but smile when she read his heartfelt words. Everything about this morning was so perfect already that she didn't want to make him wait but she couldn't just run outside like some desperate little girl! She was a mature adult who could let her boyfriend (and hopefully one day fiance) wait while she made herself a bagel which she didn't even really toast and she almost forgot to put the cream cheese on. It was sort of bittersweet as she stepped through the kitchen and started herself a mug of tea. Elliot's parents were probably on a plane right now back home and she hadn't really gotten to do much with them during their visit aside from announce her pregnancy and scar them for life with the image of her riding their son burned into their minds forever. Yeah, that was what they were going to remember about this trip not the wonderful memories that she hoped to make when they went caroling or took them skiing! Hell, they didn't even get to do any of those things or the horse drawn carriage ride through the park at night while they sipped mugs of hot chocolate and discussed possible baby names and how wonderful it was going to be when they visited with the twins.
None the less, she needed to hurry up in the kitchen before Elliot caught his death out there. She still had her bagel in her hand as she stepped over to peck him on the forehead and sit down. She loved it when he played guitar for her so she didn't think anything of this. He was so perfect! How could she thinks that he had sexual reasons for this? Obviously he was just being sweet. "Awe." She murmured as she took a small bite out of her bagel. What was he even playing? Whatever. It was the thought that counts not the words, right?
Right.

Elliot wasn't really that cold, even thought his face was and his fingers felt like they were about to freeze off. He wasn't that long before Raine appeared and sat beside him with a a bagel. He smiled at her and continued playing. He had gone through four or five songs before she came out, just waiting on her with the patience of God. Even if he wanted to just ask already and get all of these nervous feelings out, but he had to stick to his plan.
He had to do it now. Carefully and near perfectly, he transitioned the chords into the song he had chosen for her, Marry Me by Train. The lyrics fit so perfectly with everything that they had gone through and everything that he felt even when they first met.
He sang and played the song, little snow flurries landing on her hat. When it ended, Elliot stood up on shaky legs, leaned his guitar against his seat and went Raine. "Raine Lynette Gregory, my beautiful, precious penguin..." He paused to take her hand though still standing. "I've dreamed of you since as long as I can remember. You're perfect and my light in the darkness. I will never love anyone as much as I've love you, and I want to be by your side for the rest of our lives. Penguins mate for life, and the male finds the perfect pebble to give his female. Well," This was it. He reached inside his pocket and pulled out the little black box and knelt in the snow before her. "I just have one question.." Elliot pushed as hard as he could to get the words out. "Raine?" He opened the box to reveal his pebble. "Will you marry me?"

Will you marry me? Raine couldn't even try to form words! The song... the roses .... the note, it all made sense now and she could feel hot happy tears forming in her eyes. She was mentally kicking herself for not taking five minutes to put on her make up and contacts but maybe it was for the best that she hadn't. He proposed to her when she was at her worst and that meant that he got to see her at her best. "I.... I....." She reached her hands up to cover her teary face. Had she said yes yet? Oh damn.
She hadn't yet!
"Elliot... Elliot... baby... yes! Yes! A thousand times yes!" She squealed as she looked in awe at the ring. How did he know the perfect one? How did he know her so well to know just what she wanted? She slipped it on her finger and she let out a small gasp. It fit amazingly! It felt like it was just always meant to be there! She was trying not to cry anymore just in case he took that the wrong way. Why could she not stop crying and looking at her finger?
She never thought that she would be the kind of girl who cried when they were proposed to but she was almost eight weeks pregnant with twins and her hormones were raging! "Baby! This.... this is so sweet." She was too caught up in the moment to even notice that she was shivering from the cold.

He was shaking from both the cold and his weak knees that felt they would give out at anytime. Why wasn't she saying anything? Sure she was shocked, that was written all over her face, but shouldn't she had answered him but now if it was a yes?
And then came her uplifting and rejoiced words. "Yes?" He busted out with a partial laugh and smile as she placed the ring on her finger and the -he guessed- happy tears streamed down her face. He stood up, wrapping her in his arms. "Yes! You said yes!" He twirled her around in the snow with him, both shivering from the cold. He set her down and kissed her before wrapping her in his arms again. "I love you so much, Raine." He said into her neck. "No man could be happier than I am right now."
He felt complete, accomplished beyond any doubt anyone had ever had about him. With the love of his life by his side for life, two beautiful babies on the way, a job that he loved lined up, and their brilliant house that they would be making so many memories in.
She was still shivering, and he was too so he figured they could go inside now. "Come inside, you're shaking." He said, grabbing his guitar and her hand. He couldn't being himself to let go of her hand, and he pulled her back to him, lifting her slightly so she could stand on the tops of his shoes and he kissed various spots of her face.

Raine couldn't believe that he had just proposed to her like that! She should have trusted him the day before and not freaked out because she thought that he was never going to ask her to marry him. She didn't care if it was below freezing outside as long as she was with him. What more could she need in life? He was everything that she could ever want or need in her life. "Baby.... I love you." She mumbled softly as she moved her face so it was in his neck. He smelled nice... "Oh Elliot... Oh Elliot...." She wanted to tell him everything that she was feeling inside of her head but she simply couldn't find the words. What if he got offended that she hadn't said some big romantic heartfelt speech?
She was in shock! And she wasn't completely convinced that this wasn't just a really realistic dream. "Elliot.... do you wanna... make love to me?" She thought that was better than just asking if he was ready to make up for the fact that he chose cake over properly satisfying her like a real man would but did she want to ruin this moment with sex? Unless it was her definition of making love which was slow and sweet, just enjoying the feelings and becoming one as a couple physically and emotionally. Her emotional needs weren't usually met during sex which was fine by her because he met them outside of sex.
"We can just go upstairs and see where this takes us...." Her hands were slowly slipping up his shirt and she was giving him that look. The one that said that the only thing that she wanted was him to take her up the stairs and make her moan his name. What better way to celebrate an engagement so sweet?

Elliot continued to slow spin them around when she started running her hand up his shirt. In a way, he wanted to take her upstairs, but part of his said not to. His body said other wise, as he took off his coat, wrapped her arms around his neck and turned around to give her a piggy back ride up the stairs. He slid his hands under her legs for support knowing that she might be scared even by this small of a height.
When they reached the bedroom, he laid her down so gently as if she were a precious million dollar vase. He remembered back to the first time they ever had sex. It was sweet, simple, and like something you would see in an old romance movie. He wanted that now. Nothing rough or animal-like, just love. The way he thought sex was supposed to be.
Elliot stood in front of her next to the bed's edge and kissed her lips the way he used to. Softly, gently, careful. "I love you." He whispered to her. He kissed her forehead and mumbled again, "Mrs. Gates." He kissed her cheek followed by the same words, and again when he kissed her lips and neck.
Elliot leaned her back, "My penguin, my beautiful penguin." He whispered into her collar bone. Elliot wasn't rushing this. He wanted her to be reminded again of how much she meant to him and how much he loved her. He wanted it to be like their first time. That was when he knew he would be here with her one day. Proposing, marriage, children, growing old together. Everything was falling into play.

Raine liked this side of Elliot.
It wasn't that crazy rough animal style sex wasn't good but it was nice sometimes to just go slow even if she did want to just get the release he'd denied her without having to work for it or even wait for it. "Elliot..." She mused softly as she thought back to their first time. She was truly in love with him the first time that they had sex which was why Dallas Kennedy didn't count.
Dallas Kennedy didn't count as her first time so if anyone ever asked than she told them that she had only made love to one person which wasn't a lie. "Elliot ..." She brought him closer to her and slowly wrapped her legs around his waist. She didn't want to ruin the moment because she couldn't wait! "I love you." She liked how Mrs. Gates sounded. She adored how it felt to hear him say it and know he was talking to her.
Not Ashley, not Poppy, not even the surprisingly perky old lady who lived across the way from her at her old apartment who insisted on changing in front of the window so everyone could see how oddly perky she was.... ew. Thinking about old lady boobs was helping her from going crazy at this slow pace.
She just hoped that it wasn't going to kill the mood. Did she have serious problems if it didn't kill the mood entirely? The live show always did!

It was torturous to go this slow after finally getting used to.. whatever that crazy sex drive of his was. But when he leaned up to face her as she wrapped her legs around him, he knew it was worth it. Elliot pulled off his shirt and let it drop to his feet. He allowed his hands to graze at her skin underneath her shirt, trailing up from her sides before he pulled her shirt off as well. He then proceeded to fiddle with her pants, carefully pulling both of theirs off. He wasn't trying to be forward, but this whole gentle thing was harder for him than he thought.
Elliot kissed at her shoulder, pushing her up farther on the bed. He looked to her as if to ask if everything was okay and that he could proceed, just like he used to.
