"Mason!" Kasey said as the little boy ventured into the kitchen alone. Any mother knows the kitchen is the most dangerous place for a baby. So many chemicals under the sink and things that could get pulled down on their head, cords to tug on, metal to get cut by -- The list goes on. Mason was dressed in some greenish jeans, and wasn't wearing a shirt because Mason gets what he wants at home, and today, he refused to keep his clothing on. If it were completely up to Mace, he wouldn't even have the pants on, but Griffin had called, letting Kasey know that Thalia and Emily were coming over. Great, company. Your kinda-sorta stepdaughter and your husband's baby mama coming to your crappy apartment for dinner. Should be a fun evening, right. "Mason, come back in here! Daddy's almost home, sweetie!" Kasey cooed, running a hand through her hair. She herself was wearing a pair of normal blue jeans and a black tank top, and she had black socks on her feet. "Daddy?" Mason said, in that adorable baby voice. Okay, he wasn't a baby anymore. Three years old is technically a toddler, but he would always be a baby to Kasey. The child's eyes lit up and he grinned, looking to the door, waiting for Griffin. "Daddy? Mama where's Daddy?" He questioned, looking back at Kasey, the smile gone from his face. "Daddy'll be home soon, baby." Kasey assured, kissing the top of his head.

Griffin hated his job.
His financial situation.
He hated most everything about his life.
What didn't he hate? His Ray of sunshine, of course! And Mason Oliver Reed; his unplanned blessing. How could anyone walk inside and see that face and not be filled with joy?
He stepped inside their tiny apartment and he was immediately ten times happier than he had been! He lifted his young son up into his arms when he walked in the door before looking around for his wife. "Hey Kasey.... Don't get angry... I went to Target and bought a couple of things for Emily. Do ten year olds like gift cards and movies? I bought her a lot of stuff so we can make her a little area in the apartment."
He wanted his daughter! He had been feeling horrible guilt over dropping out of her life but he had serious shit to deal with when he did that.
So he was making up for it by using more than half of the money they had in their bank account.

Emily was killing Thalia on the drive to Griffin's house. She was bombarding her with questions about Griffin. 'Like why hasn't he been around lately? Are you and dad getting back together? Why now does he want to be in my life? and a lot more. ' She parked in the parking lot of Griffin and Kasey's apartment and got out. She walked around the other side of her car and waited for Emily to get out. Once she got out, she locked her car door. Emily was wearing a white 'one direction' shirt, skinny jeans, and white vans. Her hair was down and straightened thanks to her mom who did it for her. Thalia was wearing a white off the shoulder top that had blue, brown, and silver feathered designs on it, black shorts, and white sandals.
"Does daddy still love me? Am I still here princess like he said I am?"Emily asked looking up at Thalia with a worried smile. "Oh hunny"Thalia pulled her into a hug. "Of course your father still loves you, and you'll always be his princess, Emmy"Thalia said as she kissed her daughters forehead. "Come on Em, let's go see your father"she said as she grabbed Emily's hand and pulled her up the stairs with her. She wasn't looking forward to this dinner. She knew it would be awkward. But, too be honest. The only reason she was agreeing to coming is because she knew Emily wanted to see her dad. When they got to the door, Thalia let go of Emily's hand and knocked on the door to their apartment.

"Griffin?? Are you being serious?" Kasey had stood up to hug him, but pulled back when he said how much he spent on buying things for Emily. Yeah, he was her daughter and they hadn't had the best relationship lately, but Griffin didn't even spend that kind of money on his child he had custody of, that he lived with. "I can't believe you fuc--" A knock at the door. Kasey narrowed her eyes at Griffin. "We'll talk about this later." Then, putting on a happy couple front, she smiled and kissed Griffin on the lips. "I love you!"
Kasey bounded to the door, and opened it with a smile. "Hey Thalia! Hi Emily!" She said cheerfully, hugging Thalia first, then bending down a little to hug Emily. Since high school, the four had become relatively close, what with Griffin being Emily's father and Thalia having Emily with her so often. Kasey adored Emily, she has the sweetest personality -- just like her mother -- and was so fun to be around.
After hugging the two, Kasey took Mason from Griffin's arms so he could greet Thalia and their daughter. "I hope you guys don't mind pizza. Like, frozen, make in the oven pizza. Things are.. Tight. Well not too tight, but.. You know," Kasey sighed, running a hand through her dark, wavy hair again and shifting Mason onto her left hip, bouncing a little out of habit.

Griffin understood Kasey's angry as they really didn't have much disposable income but he also knew that he needed to make things right with his daughter.... How could he just drop out of her life like that? How could he just stop seeing her? What kind of a father was he?
He was trying his hardest to ignore those awful thoughts.
"Wow, you look so much like your mother!" He complimented before hugging both of them for a second, "This is Mason... Mason is.... you know." He nodded before rushing to grab the bags from Target, "This is for you, Emily....." He wanted her to know that he cared. "I wrote you a card to but don't read that until you get home because it's kind of long but it'll explain everything, I promise."
He nervously cleared his throat before looking in his young son's direction, "Mason, say hello to Thalia and Emily. Emily is your sister." He smiled as he spoke; it felt nice introducing them.

Emily looked in the bag at the stuff and smiled. "Dad, you didn't have to get me anything... But thank you"she said. She placed the stuff down on a table before hugging Griffin tightly. "I've missed you so much dad"she said in his chest. Thalia could tell Emily was about to cry, they were so much a like that she could tell that would happen. Emily looked up at Griffin, "I've missed you a lot daddy, and I love you so much"she said before wiping her eyes. She was crying, but only because she was so happy to see her dad for the first time in three and a half years. He's missed so much of her life, and she wanted him back in it.
Thalia smiled at Mason, "Aw! Kasey, he's adorable"she said. Then waved her hand in the 'I don't mind' way, "I get it. Money's tight for me too, you don't have to explain... Frozen pizza sounds great. As weird as it is, Emily loves frozen pizza. It's one of her favorite things to eat"she laughed. "I can help you get dinner ready and such"she offered. She honestly was happy for Griffin and Kasey. They seemed happy, and she was happy that Emily always had a good family to go to if she ever had to stay with them. Plus, she never felt threatened by Kasey. Which was a relief, because it would have been bad if Kasey and her didn't get along.

"He is pretty cute, huh?" Kasey beamed and smoothed down Mason's hair. She kissed the top of his head and set him down on the carpet. "Go play with Emily, Macey. She's your sister." Kasey trusted Emily with Mason. She really had no reason not to. The girl was ten, and surely old enough to know how to handle a small child. It was really common sense, and instinct for most women and girls.
Kasey laughed at Thalia's comment about Emily loving frozen pizza. "I think all kids love anything frozen," She giggled, then cocked her head in the direction of the kitchen area. "I'll go get it in the oven. I'm sure you have some things to discuss with Griffin?" The last part was more of a question, but Kasey went to the kitchen without waiting for a reply.

Griffin was glad that his only daughter wasn't angry with him about the whole dropping out of her life thing especially since he was pretty damn angry with himself right now. "Emily, why don't you look through all of that stuff while I talk to your mom?" He pecked her on the forehead before heading over to Thalia and gently pulling her into his and Kasey's bedroom so they could have a private conversation.
Just talking.
"I want more time with Emily. I want her to be able to spend like weekends with me so I drew this picture at work and I'm going to divide the living room like this...." He pulled the folded up napkin from his pocket and handed it to her with a hopeful grin.
"Will she like it? I'm planning on buying her a tv to watch and a computer! And a car!"

Thalia looked up at Griffin, "You need to be sure about this Griffin. I'm not being mean. But, I don't want you to say you want her in your life and then the next you decide you don't want to see her for three years. You can't do that to her! She is ten years old. She thought you didn't love her anymore, Griff"she said looking down at the floor. She looked at the napkin, "She has a laptop she can bring over here, so you don't have to worry about buying her a computer. And she has six years before she's going to need a car, so you don't have to worry about that... She'll love it though"she said.
She ran a hand through her hair. "You have your own son, working on building a family with Kasey... How does she feel about this idea of yours?"she asked raising a eye brow. "I get Emily five out of seven days a week. Linda and Pat get her on weekends. But, you can get her two out of my five days. She's on a training schedule for her gym, so she can continue gymnastics. If you want her to stay here with you, she needs to be there for her practice both of the two days you have her. They're two hour long practices. I pay two hundred dollars a month for her to go there. I'm a volunteer trainer at the gym, so if you lie and tell me she was there when she wasn't... I'll know"she said. "Second thing, you have to come to one of her gymnastics meets. She always hopes you'll come to them. I've sent you texts telling you about them and she always got her hopes up but you never have came. She's amazing, and she wants to show you how good she is... She is your daughter, and if you want to be in her life... These are some of the things you have to do for her. If you want to be apart of her life, these are things you have to be committed to doing for her"Thalia said with a hopeful smile that he would be ready for all that. Emily needed her dad in her life, and Thalia would do anything for him to just be involved.

"Pizza's done!" Kasey called from the kitchen ((that was a fast 20 minutes XD)). Naturally, both children came running, and Kasey warned them the pizza was still too hot to eat so they needed to wait. Leaving the pizza up on the counter, Kasey ventured off to find Thalia and her husband. She found them in their room, but wasn't upset because she totally understood the circumstances.
"The food is ready, guys.." She said, looking between the two, a little uncomfortable imagining the conversation she interrupted. "It's cooling, but I was thinking we could all eat at the table together?"
Okay so maybe the dining table was really the coffee table and everyone had to sit on the floor around it, but it was still eating at a table together, right? Right! Kasey smiled at them and walked back out to the table, cutting the pizza into eight slices once she got there. Once she finished that, she took out three cans of beer from the fridge, a can of soda for Emily, and a juice box for Mason. Was Emily allowed to have soda? Probably. She brought the sodas to the coffee table, then the pizza along with some paper plates and ranch.
